There has never been a better time to visit Flinders Island if you live on mainland Tasmania. With our ability to travel interstate and overseas extremely limited, why not take the opportunity to visit spectacular Flinders Island.

From the minutes you step off your Sharp Airlines flight from Hobart or Launceston, you will find yourself in a different world, an unhurried and relaxed lifestyle where the locals are friendly and helpful. Where you’ll find pristine beaches – around 120 in total, spectacular scenery and a variety of wildlife including wombats galore!

I said to myself after being on Flinders Island only a short time, ‘why did I leave it so long to visit this paradise that is right on my doorstep, and has been for the past 50-years?’ – Brian, Hobart

Whitemark is the main settlement of Flinders Island, and where the main airport is located. Whitemark has a population of only around 150 people, so you’ll never feel cramped or be fighting peak hour traffic!

Whitemark overlooks Parry’s Bay and is situated on the west coast of Flinders Island. Whitemark boasts a rich maritime and other history and stories of life in a remote and often harsh environment. Grab a hire car from Flinders Island Airport (book in advance!) and you’ll be in Whitemark within 10-minutes of touching down.

A short distance south, some 28 kilometres or 30-minutes drive, you’ll find the delightful coastal fishing town of Lady Barron with a population of around 150 people.

North of Whitemark you’ll find other beautiful small settlements including Emita, Palana, and of course Killiecrankie, where you can fossick for the famous Killiecrankie diamonds.
