I recently returned from a 4-night getaway to Flinders Island and loved every second of it. I rented a car from Flinders Island Car Rentals, and found the process very simple and straightforward including the initial booking process, and follow-up service. I was met at the Flinders Island Airport following my Sharp Airlines flight from Hobart, and within 10-minutes was on my way. The lady who served me was very helpful and professional. My car was a Camry Altese, automatic and with around 355,000 kilometres on the clock. It was clean and tidy, and obviously had been well maintained despite the reasonably high number of kilometres travelled. Hire cars, and most vehicles for that matter, have a bull bar fitted as unfortunately as wildlife is common on the island at dawn and dusk. Please drive carefully! The main road between Whitemark and Lady Barron, and from Whitemark to just north of Emita, is sealed. Other main roads, including the loop from just North of Lady Barron via Lackrana to Emita also sealed and in excellent condition. However, many other roads are gravel, but generally very good including the roads north of Emita to Killiecrankie and Palana. With your rental car from Flinders Island Car Rentals, you are not permitted to travel on single-lane gravel roads or obvious 4WD tracks. I returned my vehicle full of fuel – there is a 24/7 self-service fuel outlet in nearby Whitemark. The attendant who met me at the airport was also friendly, and the return of my vehicle was equally painless. See also: Car Rental Flinders Island
